Founded and grew the first Canadian Ruby-On-Rails development company from three to twelve employees. Ryan created web applications for both start-ups and multi-nationals. Employees that Ryan hired and mentored have gone on to work for Wikipedia and 37Signals.
Ryan founded a database design and development company that serves a variety of clients, ranging from small non-profits to multi-national corporations. Ryan created a non-profit branch to provide “pay what you can” services to local charities. Clients included: EMI, Canadian Tire, Scotiabank, Zurich Insurance, BMG, and Bank of Montreal.
Ryan ran the new media and IT department for an 82-person music startup in the first dot-com boom and learned plenty about what not to do. E.g., spend $2.5 million renovating a leased warehouse office.
